Johanna Drucker September 7, 7pm in Falvey Hall ? MICA Graphic ...

We are bombarded by signage?street, municipal, traffic, commercial, as well as personal notices and graffiti. How do they shape our experience of the urban landscape? Can we talk back to them, interrogate them? Beyond literal words and meanings, what can these signs tell us about ourselves, our city, our society, our foibles? Speaker Johanna Drucker will challenge us to contemplate, explore and document the written word in urban spaces and places.

Drucker is internationally known as a book artist and visual poet; her work is represented in many major museum and library collections. She is author of?Graphic Design History: A Critical Guide?and Breslauer Professor of Bibliographical Studies in the Department of Information Studies at UCLA. Two of her most recent projects are a letterpress edition of her own Stochastic Poetics, and a book on?Digital Humanities, forthcoming from MIT Press.
