Private adoption through foster care - Adoption.com Forums

We've had our nephew for two years now and first saw an adoption lawyer a year ago. He advised that if it went to TPR we should ask for guardianship afterwards (not in lieu of TPR!!) and do a private adoption since it is a lot quicker and easier than having to wait on DHS.

So TPR has been granted and the assistant DA is filing a motion to transfer custody and guardianship to us so we can do a private adoption. I was wondering if anyone has been down this path and how it differs? We have been told by other people here that DHS is very very slow with adoptions in our area and that if we can afford it then this route is way faster. We also still haven't done the PS-MAPP class and home study. We start the class in two weeks, we signed up in JANUARY ... if that gives you an idea of how slow things go here!!!
